- do you know how to leave the communities you are a part of?
- recently encountered the community weaving framework. i think they are on the forefront in terms of knowledge on creating healthy communities.
- one aspect of the framework: the circles - helpful in terms of thinking about honouring differing levels of involvement
- In every community, we find some people who contribute a lot and some who contribute very little, with many people in between. These different layers of participation are natural and change over time. However, if we leave them unnamed, they can lead to feelings of guilt, frustration and burnout. In a healthy community we define clear roles and find ways to honor the different levels of engagement.
- this is one topic we've been engaging with in kizuna --- how can we create pathways for members to get involved. and how can we make it easy to step down if you need to, with intention and no hard feelings. basically creating easeful and joyful avenues for people to come in and out
- within corporate structures, this is much more well defined. you have whole systems and workflows in place.
- but in volunteer based communities and decentralized collectives, like what we are becoming, the lines can get more blurry. roles are dynamic. people move between them as their lives change. so it's necessary to recognize when participation in groups drains rather than nourishes, and how to reset
- if you run a community - how can you clear up these circles? if u are a member and feeling anxious about where you stand with your obligations and position --> how can you ask for clarity?
